Y’say you like dancin’, eh? Well listen here: Provo, Utah’s Neon Trees – named one of Alternative Press’ “Bands to Watch 2010” – have delivered an alt-rock radio hit in their debut single Animal' (featured on a recent episode of Melrose Place and in the iPhone game Tap Tap Revenge) - and their debut album, entitled Habits, features the kind of catchy 80s-tinged tunes you might wanna hot-step to. Just sayin’.  Frontman Tyler Glenn maintains the band has the “energy of a punk band and soul of R&B” (Spinner.com)- which you might have seen for yourself when they toured with The Killers, or more recently (now) with 30 Seconds To Mars. GetMusic.ca saw Neon Trees this past week in Toronto, and we can report their performance contained loads of high kicks – which to us is a major selling point, really. High kicks are awesome.

When Spinner Magazine asked Auckland, New Zealand native Gin Wigmore to describe her musical style, it was hard for her to come up with just one. “It’s a mash up and a bit of everything: blues, soul, pop, rock and folk. I can't quite decide what the hell I want to do yet, so I am just keeping it broad.”

The talented 23 year old singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist developed her career after winning the International Songwriting Competition in 2004. At the early age of 16, she beat out 11,000 other aspiring songwriters from 77 countries around the world with her original single, ‘Hallelujah.’ Not only did ‘Hallelujah’ make Gin the competition’s youngest and only unsigned grand prize winner, it was also featured in the season six finale of One Tree Hill.

After sharing the stage with acts such as John Butler, Sheryl Crow and John Mellencamp, Gin has released her much anticipated debut album Holy Smoke. Gin created Holy Smoke with The Cardinals as her backing band and with Mike Elizondo, most famously associated with Eminem, Nelly Furtado and Regina Spektor as her producer.

Cardinal’s guitarist, Neal Casal speaks highly of both Gin and the album. “Her voice is raw and emotional, with phrasing far beyond her years. Her debut record is a fully realised statement of intent, promising a great career ahead.”
